AboutFace Support

AboutFace uses a system of HTML templates, allowing system administrators to modify all aspects of the software's user interface.

Following are the most common template files used by AboutFace.  Templates can be found on your system in [AboutFace Directory]\aboutface\tmpl.  After editing a template, changes will be reflected the next time the affected user interface element is displayed.

Notes:

  • You can edit any template(s) you wish.  You need only be careful to not modify the special AboutFace tags contained in the templates.  The special tags begin with the characters "<!".  For example, <!rows> is a special tag.

  • Some AboutFace screens will display differently for different user groups (administrators vs. non-administrators).  Administrator templates generally start with "admin" or will contain the word "admin".

  • There are several built-in layouts (also known as views) for data display in AboutFace.  Many of the templates are prefixed with one of these layout names:

    • employee: This is the internal named for the Detailed view in the user interface.  This layout displays one record at a time.

    • thumbnail: This layout displays two columns of records with small photos.

    • bizcard: This layout displays one column of records with photos that are larger than in the thubmnail layout.

    • index: This layout displays a grid of records with no photos.  This is the view that is displayed for search results (when there is more than one record) and when the Show All tab is clicked.
